August 2008 Diablo Sea Bears Newsletter

Those present at the meeting were: Dan, Ron & Michelle, Richard, Walt, Tom & Doris, Kathy, Craig, Linda and Caitlin, Bob T., Kevin and Margie.

Vice-President Kathy’s message to the members was to be safe when diving.

Membership: Doris reported that Jack & Mary M had not renewed their membership.

Safety: Craig also told members to be safe while diving due to the abundance of kelp in the waters around Albion.

Webmaster Kevin said he had pictures and would be updating the website. He also mentioned that if you send pictures to try to have captions also.

Newsletter: Margie asked that reports be sent after each dive and that she had a number of reports to send out with the newsletter in August.

Old business: There was a discussion as to whether the club should buy an oxygen tank. There was a vote and it was not accepted. Richard told us that Channel 16 on the marine band is the emergency channel for Albion River Fire Department.

New Business: Dan reported that there are some people interested in joining our club who cannot make the meeting due to where they live. There was a motion proposed and accepted that the requirements for membership are they (1) attend two meetings and one dive, (2) attend two dives and one meeting or (3) attend three dives. After that the members would vote whether they should be accepted into the club once they dive with the individuals.

Doris volunteered to take on the position of “Pink Lady” and will send cards to any ailing members. She was going to send a card to Maggie T.

Ron made a motion to increase the amount given to those members with boats who take other members out with them to either fish or dive. The increase would go from $8 to $10.

Craig & Linda extended an invitation to members for a BBQ at their home on Saturday, September 6th. Craig will be roasting a hog and all you are asked to bring is a side dish and your own beverage. Invitations would be going out in the mail.

President Dan mentioned he would be contacting Pacific Reef Dive Shop who has a dive club combined with North Coast Divers to see if they might like to join us on a dive weekend.

The Golden Ab (substituted with the Fake Nut) award was given to Kevin for forgetting his diving gloves at home, then going to a dive shop in Fort Bragg and buying a new pair of gloves... and then leaving the new gloves in camp when he went out to go abalone diving with Richard, Ron and Brian.
